i’m stressed and have made myself sick :( what to do?

hi,
i’m at a boarding school in india, and more precisely in the medical centre. I have body aches all over my body, and bad stomach cramps, i think i also got really dehydrated during the day (as it’s 40*c) so i have a head ache. My body feels really heavy and i have no energy. I tried sleeping earlier but i can’t.

I’m pretty sure i have all of this because there is so much stress at my school at the moment, with work, friends. But i don’t know what to do now.. now i have made myself literally sick with my problems.

I’m also not taking any medicine because i don’t really believe in it, and i don’t think it’s a case of me being sick, i think it’s psychological. Please could you suggest things i should do, and maybe some alternatives to medicine.

Thanks a lot for taking the time.
smiles, anna

There are a number of things which could be causing your symptoms. Although some of them are symptoms which can have a psychological basis, together they are far more likely to indicate an infectious disease. Since you are in the medical centre of a school I imagine there is some kind of health professional there treating you, who I’m sure knows what they are doing.
As for not believing in medicines – don’t be so stupid and arrogant. You really think as a school child you have more knowledge in the way medicine works, than thousands of years of medical research, all the doctors and scientists all over the world who dedicate they’re lives to learning medicine and achieving medical breakthroughs? Do you understand that medicine and drugs are an accumulation of people’s (almost all of whom were cleverer than you) knowledge – people who have researched and experimented and won Noble prizes. You realize that there are many diseases which without medicine kill people?
I would suggest that if you are being given medicine in this medical centre you take it and stop thinking you know more than the medically trained person who is prescribing it.

Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker II Array Microphone The Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker II Array Microphone is a deluxe USB speech recognition and conferencing tool designed for use in lecture halls, office meetings, VoIP conferences and more. Redesigned with help and input from customer feedback on the original Voice Tracker Array Microphone , the Voice Tracker II (VT II) provides unbeatable sound fidelity and ease of use. The VT II incorporates a high-quality acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) algorithm which enables full duplex VoIP based conferencing, which means that all parties can speak and listen at the same time without any loss in sound quality. This feature eliminates the need for headphones, as the microphone differentiates between talkers and will not pick up and re-transmit sounds on the receiving end of the call. With USB primary audio output and power connection, the Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker II Array Microphone is streamlined for VoIP use, however the unique electronic ‘listening beam’ technology allows the VT II to be used for a variety of other industrial applications, including the legal, medical and educational fields. The innovative multi-element microphone design provides superb clarity and mic accuracy for the entire room, allowing multiple users to speak without the need to reposition themselves or the microphone. This feature also lets the VT II learn the location of the talker, which can be used to direct a camera or other device towards the sound origin. The high-quality electronic mic array also works great with automatic speech recognition software, providing accurate and concise transcription and playback. Truly a unique and affordable alternative to a majority of conferencing tools on the market, buy your Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker II Array Microphone from ActiveForever.com today! This joint disease is chronic and degenerative, and affects just over 10 percent of everyone over the age of 55. The symptoms are primarily pain and impaired mobility. A great advantage of DUROLANE is that it only requires one injection per treatment instead of the three to five that are necessary with competing products in order to achieve an effect. For the patient and the doctor this means that the risk of injection-related infections is reduced and that the patient does not need to come back so often. The effect of the treatment lasts approximately six monthsDurolane is a CE-marked medical device fulfilling the requirements of MDD 93/42/EEC.Durolane contains 20mg/ml of non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) in buffered physiological sodium chloride solution pH 7. Artificial Happiness: The Dark Side of the New Happy Class

Artificial Happiness: The Dark Side of the New Happy Class

$15.95

Ronald Dworkin, Fellow at the Hudson Institute, has written a book of social commentary that combines the politics of healthcare and medical ethics with several momentous changes that have dramatically altered the relationship among doctors and patients, creating what Dworkin dubs “artificial happiness.” He examines the rise of psychotropic drugs; alternative medicine; the belief in endorphins as a way to maximize health through exercise; and medicine’s investigations of spirituality — all during the past thirty years — fitting them together into a story that puts Americans at the center of a novel social experiment: helping people feel happy independent of the facts in their lives. Though well-intentioned, Dworkin identifies a dark side, asserting that Prozac, for instance, is freezing people in unsatisfactory relationships and jobs, nullifying their impulse to change, because of the “happiness” induced by the medicine.

B.O.O.B.S.: A Bunch of Outrageous Breast-Cancer Survivors Tell Their Stories of Courage, Hope, & Healing

$3.82

B.O.O.B.S. (A Bunch Of Outrageous Breast-Cancer Survivors) is a collection of personal stories by ten courageous women about how they are living with breast cancer, not dying from it. Written with humor, insight, raw emotion, and honesty, each story details one woman’s personal experience — from the shocking diagnosis to surgery and beyond — and the effect breast cancer has had on her and the people in her life — husband or lover, family, and friends. These women are a new breed of cancer survivors. Resourceful and proactive, many of them challenged current medical practices or combined alternative treatments with conventional ones. Brought together by The Wellness Center, a program devoted to providing cost-free psychological support to cancer patients and their loved ones, the contributors all believe strongly in the healing power of group therapy and peer sharing. In fact, several of them have become patient advocates and spokeswomen in a quest to make a difference in the lives of other women facing this frightening disease. B.O.O.B.S. offers invaluable information about the latest cancer treatments as well as the benefit of peer support. Every year more than 200,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Most have no genetic or other known risk factors and are therefore blindsided by the diagnosis. The emotional turmoil that results can be devastating, and B.O.O.B.S. is a book that can give women hope to beat this disease. It will also help family members and friends of survivors, women who are at risk and clinicians who treat breast-cancer patients.

 Copeland's Cure

Copeland’s Cure

$24.95

Today, one out of every three Americans uses some form of alternative medicine, either along with their conventional ( standard, traditional ) medications or in place of them. One of the most controversial-as well as one of the most popular-alternatives is homeopathy, a wholly Western invention brought to America from Germany in 1827, nearly forty years before the discovery that germs cause disease. Homeopathy is a therapy that uses minute doses of natural substances-minerals, such as mercury or phosphorus; various plants, mushrooms, or bark; and insect, shellfish, and other animal products, such as Oscillococcinum. These remedies mimic the symptoms of the sick person and are said to bring about relief by entering the body’s vital force. Many homeopaths believe that the greater the dilution, the greater the medical benefit, even though often not a single molecule of the original substance remains in the solution. In Copeland’s Cure, Natalie Robins tells the fascinating story of homeopathy in this country; how it came to be accepted because of the gentleness of its approach-Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow were outspoken advocates, as were Louisa May Alcott, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Daniel Webster. We find out about the unusual war between alternative and conventional medicine that began in 1847, after the AMA banned homeopaths from membership even though their medical training was identical to that of doctors practicing traditional medicine. We learn how homeopaths were increasingly considered not to be real doctors, and how real doctors risked expulsion from the AMA if they even consulted with a homeopath. At the center of Copeland’s Cure is RoyalSamuel Copeland, the now-forgotten maverick senator from New York who served from 1923 to 1938. One of the most controversial–as well as one of the most popular–alternatives is homeopathy, a wholly Western invention brought to America from Germany in 1827, nearly forty years before the discovery that germs cause disease. A women’s decision about what kind of childbirth experience she wants to have is central to her politics, identity, and personality. Today’s moms and moms-to-be are better informed about their options than ever before, but, perhaps not surprisingly, they confront rigid judgment from women who choose a different path. Women who opt for home birth are criticized for being reckless–what if there’s a medical emergency? Women who opt for elective C-sections are considered selfish–their lives are so busy they have to schedule an appointment to give birth? Deliver This! provides a thorough overview of today’s options: home birth; birthing centers, vaginal birth in a hospital (with or without anesthetics), and elective and medically necessary C-sections. Author Marisa Cohen, who delivered both her daughters in a high-tech hospital, is both engaging and curious in her quest to understand why women make alternative choices–and why they feel fiercely defensive about them. In interviews with more than 100 women, Cohen listened to the debates over the best birthing experience and explored creative solutions that bridge seemingly conflicting goals–such as having a doula at the hospital to advocate for natural birth or delivering in a birthing center’s Jacuzzi with a hospital’s ICU nearby. Smart, appealing, and personable, Deliver This! is equally valuable for first-time moms as it is for women who are pregnant with their second or third child. Cohen takes a supportive approach that is both balanced and informative, offering women an opportunity to weigh the concerns and options that surround the all-important moment of bringing a child into the world.

 Ephedra

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Ephedra, from the plant Ephedra sinica, has been used as a herbal remedy in traditional Chinese medicine for 5,000 years for the treatment of asthma and hay fever, as well as for the common cold. Known in Chinese as ma huang, ephedra is a stimulant which constricts blood vessels and increases blood pressure and heart rate. Several additional species belonging to the genus Ephedra have traditionally been used for a variety of medicinal purposes, and are a possible candidate for the Soma plant of Indo-Iranian religion. Native Americans and Mormon pioneers drank a tea brewed from an Ephedra, called Mormon Tea, but North American ephedras lack the alkaloids found in species such as E. sinica. Ephedra-containing dietary supplements have been linked to a high rate of serious side effects and a number of deaths, leading to concern from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and the medical community. However, initial efforts to test and regulate ephedra were defeated by lobbying and political pressure from the dietary-supplement industry.
